5 Steps To A Debt Free Life

The average person could care less whether they are debt free or not as long as they feel their debt is manageable. This feeling of control over credit cards is only an illusion for most people. What most people fail to understand, and what the credit card companies already know is that it is just a matter of time before a card holder allows their balances to get so large that they can only make the minimum payment. Most people are just one emergency, one shopping spree, one vacation away from debt disaster. If you have found your self in this position, there are 5 Steps you can take to dig yourself out of debt and live a debt free life.

Step 1. Decide Now! You must make a definitive decision to be debt free no matter what. For most people, getting out of debt is a 1-5 year commitment so you must have a level of conviction to get it done.
Step 2. Know your finances! You must know how much you make, how much you need to live and how much you need to pay your bills. Most people have know idea how much money they waste.
Step 3. Cut, Cut, Cut! Cut anything you don’t need. Do everything you can to reduce living expenses. Cut premium cable channels, cut cell phone minutes, reduce electrical usage, cut coupons to reduce grocery bills, cut eating out. If you really give it some thought, there are many was you can cut living expenses.
Step 4. Get a budget and stick to it. Use cash for daily living expenses. Using cash will help you stick to your budget. Once the cash is gone, your spending is done.
Step 5. Increase your income. Jobs may not be readily available right now but that doesn’t mean that you can’t earn some extra cash. Try selling some stuff. Clean out that attic or basement, place an ad on Ebay or in the local newspaper. Get together with some friends and have a garage sales. If you have special skill, you can sell your services. Commit all extra money earned to paying off debt.
