I’ve already been screwed by my ex, his lawyer & our divorce trial judge. I couldn’t afford a lawyer, there are no probono lawyers in Alaska. I called 40 different lawyers & no one was willing to work on contingency. Even Legal Aid ignored my calls. The trial is over, I got screwed, I filed a complaint against the judge, that’s over with, so please don’t tell me I should have gotten a lawyer, that is not my question!

My ex was ordered to sell 2 properties, after taxes are paid I am supposed to get 60% of what’s left over. The clincher is, the idiot judge ruled that my husband can pay off ALL of his bills (pre & post separation) with the sales money, despite all the evidence & even my ex’s admittance on stand that he sold & took 0,000 after wrongfully selling our house last year, leaving me with nothing. He makes 00 a month. I am disabled & have no income & owe thousands on medical bills, but I was ordered to pay those myself. (How? I don’t know.)

There’s interest in the 2 properties now. If they sale there will be about 0,000 to be divided after the taxes are paid. His name is on the properties only & he owns them free & clear (no debt). There are no liens against them. My Ex will drum up bogus papers (like he did before) claiming he has bills to pay & will use ALL of the money from the sales to "pay" for these bogus bills. In actuality he’ll hide the $, put it in someone elses name for now, making sure I get nothing! AGAIN! This is what he does, & a judge already let him get away with it once. He’ll do it again.

What can I do?

Every time I ask for advice on what to do, such as putting liens on the property, I am told that I should have gotten a lawyer. My problem is I have no income, I only have debt, I’m out of AK & don’t have the health to go take care of things myself, I’m stuck here getting told I should have gotten a lawyer.

I’m begging you PLEASE don’t tell me I should get a lawyer. Tell me HOW to get one. HOW? Tell me what, if anything, can I do without a lawyer? How can I make sure my ex doesn’t screw me over yet again? What can I do? Please help me!

I bought my mother a plane ticket from Mexico to Chicago since she now lives in Mexico.She is an American citizen but when she sold her house she did not pay the property taxes which is about ,000. She was supposed to get on the plane yesterday but she said she was told that the debt showed up when she tried to travel and that she could get out of Mexico but she would probably not be allowed back in because her passport would be confiscated. Is this right? How can she fix this problem?

I’m faced with a messy house and a yard that needs work and all I want to do is rest. I’m doing the job of 2 people at work, due to cutbacks, and it’s draining. How do I get a grip on things? Should I hire someone to do the yardwork? I feel kind of guilty thinking of that because I’m trying to live the frugal life and get out of debt. I just want to crawl under the covers and sleep! Any advice is appreciated.

      Isn’t adding more debt so people can get by just kind of a bandaid? Is this cycle destined to continue unless we make real change?
      This aproach sounds cyclical to me. It seems we just keep pumping up the economy with created money and cause inflation which will lead to another recession down the road. You can’t keep creating money and expect it to continue to hold value.

      I’m a non-religious guy (atheist), I live with my girlfriend and we share a kid of 8 years old. I’ve told my girlfriend from more or less the start of our relationship that I wasn’t interested in getting married, ever!!
      Although she was gutted, because it was something she dreamed of since she was little, I said that I would happily spend the rest of my life with her, I just don’t want to get into marriage.
      Marriage to me, being a un-necessary man made concept/invention of religion or law to tie couples together, that I couldn’t be bothered with the whole shenanigans. From my perspective, though many are genuine, other people seem do it to keep up with the face of society. Girls wear it as badge, a dream since they were no age who want to get hitched to their prince charming, being brought up on fairy tale noncense, and guys do it because… err, I dunno why cos none of my m8’s ambitions in life was to grow up to get married, maybe males just wanna own a woman and nail her down and sex can be on supply and demand, people have their own reasons.
      I understand marriage is meant to be a way of proving your commitment to someone you love, but… taking out a bank loan isn’t a way of proving you’re going to pay the money back. The only way you can prove you’ll pay the money back is by actually doing it untill you’re out of debt. In this fashion the only way you can prove you will spend the rest of your life will someone is by actually doing it, with either one of you making it to your death bed, and hence finalising the deal. So how does marriage prove commitment? it doesn’t prove anything.
      At the end of the day what is marriage? a piece of paper? an invisible crutch that a relationship needs support from? a load of bull?
      People get themselves into debt (sometimes to the extreme) over this thing, wasting money which could be put to better use, this invisible force which you can’t touch, you can’t feel, you pay for it but you can’t possess, so why is it drummed into the human conscious that we need it? Even Atheists participate in it, amongst all other religions.
      So as the title asks, is marriage necessary for two people in a relationship who intend to spend the rest of their lives together?
      My girlfiend and I have survived 10 years so far, we’re happy and still going strong.

      I welcome christian respsonses but it’s predictable their outcome, it’s a ritual as it is with baptism. I’m hoping the atheists will put me to light on this subject which has always puzzled me.

      I have 15k in credit card debt and i want to get rid of soon. I dont want to do go thru debt consolidation companys because it will have a negative affect on my credit. how should i start? payoff the ones with high interest first or what?
